Anthony J. Marolda
Several years ago, I discovered a Scotch painter, Jack Vettriano, shown above. He is famous for his realistic paintings of people in unusual situations. He has become one of the most popular and well-known of British artists.
Some of his work sets groups of people on beaches, having a picnic or partying. I liked his style and did a master study of one of his paintings, "The Picnic Party" for my own collection. It is shown above. I thought it was an appropriate selection because it reminded me of the kind of picnic parties that took place on the Annisquam beaches during the 1920's.
I also wanted to do an original painting in his style. To the right is a wedding party dancing on Lighthouse beach in Annisquam. The beach has been the scene of many weddings for couples who have become sentimentally attached to Squam and wanted to capture those feelings for one of the most important events in their lives.
