In the center of Harvard, there is a Common where the Universalist Church is located. In the winter, after a snow fall, children bring their sleds and coast down the hill into the hay bales at the bottom. The parents usually wait at the top. I did a soft pastel painting (above) to capture that fun activity.

Littleton is a town which borders on Harvard. There is a beautiful, old train station that still exists there, but it is now unused. When I was about five years old and living in Boston, my mother took me to visit my uncle at the Fort Devens hospital. He was recovering from wounds received during the Normandy invasion, World War II. We took a steam engine driven train to go to see him. It had to pass the Littleton station, so I had that in mind as I composed this soft pastel painting. I particularly liked doing the smoke from the train as it has many colors and assumes interesting shapes and forms.
