Several years ago the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston had an Edward Hopper show. Many of his most famous works were brought together. Among them was "Automat". It shows a young woman alone, staring sadly into her cup of coffee. He used the Horn & Hardart automat in Times Square as his scene. His wife, Jo Nevison, was the model for the woman. I wanted to have a copy of one of Hopper's works for my own collection and decided to do a full size master study of this one. It is oil on canvas, 28 x 36, shown on the right.
We are fortunate that living on Cape Ann provides easy access to the summer feeding grounds of Humpback whales on Stellwagen Bank. We take one or two trips on a Gloucester whale watch each season. Above is an Art Rock showing two humpbacks 'sounding", going on a deep dive to get food.
Each September, Gloucester has Schooner Races. Schooners from all around the country come to participate. We try to be on board one of the entrants. It makes for an exciting day, with plenty of opportunities to get some great photos. I used one of those photos to do a rock painting (upper right) of the schooner American Eagle. It is from Rockland, Maine and is usually very competitive in the race.
