I like animals, a lot, especially dogs. So, I have done a series of paintings on related subjects. Above, is an oil painting I did of a family of swans that lived on Camborne Pond in Rockport, just off of Pebble Beach. That's Purple Loosestrife in the corner. One of the maturing cygnets is shown with its parents. Swans, not necessarily the same pair, still spend part of the spring and summer at Camborne. In 2012, we were fortunate that the swans had five healthy cygnets that survived until they left Camborne for the season in early August.

To the right is a watercolor painting of a mother polar bear being hugged by her single offspring. The cub is a female named Kobe. She was born several years ago at the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence, RI. I liked the sentiment and the form and colors. I found that the watercolor medium worked well for this subject.

I recently used this painting as the Frontispiece of "Howard to the Rescue!", a children's book I wrote. I now call it "Howard's Hug".
