In Ipswich, not far from Gloucester, there is Wolf Hollow, a preserve for Grey Wolves. We've been to several presentations on the lives and behavior of these magnificent creatures. After one performance we decided to "adopt" one of the wolves. We chose Alyki, a very attractive female. I did a drawing, above, of her for the grandson of a friend who accompanied us on the visit, and who co-adopted Alyki with me. This was my first drawing of a canine.
My second canine drawing was of Woody, my own Weimaraner at the time. He was on the very large end of the breed spectrum and weighed almost 100 pounds. For some reason, Woody loved to pose for the camera. Perhaps that's the reason that William Wegman chose Weims to compose his famous photos of the breed in various costumes and postures. They seem to be patient and easy to work with when posing is involved. Normally, however, they tend to be "wicked hypa" as described by a Gloucester local when he saw Woody for the first time.
