Hundreds of years ago, the Renaissance Masters perfected the art of drawing and painting. One of the most accomplished, of course, was Leonardo DaVinci. A great way to learn thier skills is to study their works and try to intuit how they accomplished their creations.

Here are master studies of two drawings I did which are good examples of Leonardo's skill as an artist. Both drawings were originally done as studies for an oil painting that he was composing.

Leonardo used a red pigment called Sanguine to do his drawings. For my versions I obtained the sanguine color with conte crayons. A white conte crayon was used to do the highlights.

To the right is a study of a cloth draped over a human figure. Above is a framed drawing of the head of a woman.
