The final assignment for the drawing class was to find an interesting vehicle to render. I searched the area around Harvard and found an old, decaying monster of a truck in a yard belonging to a construction company in Boxboro. It had been stripped of all useable parts and then left to rot.
To the right is the result of the exercise. It incorporates many of the lessons we learned in terms of shading, tonal balance, etc. Matt liked all of the drawings that came from my class exercises and had them framed and hung in his company's offices.
Matt also liked the watercolor painting I did of a fish shack in Pidgeon Cove and added it to his office collection. The cove is in Rockport and has a mix of fishing and pleasure boats on moorings. The ocean side of the cove is formed by a very large sea wall. In front of that wall, on the cove side, fishermen have built a number of small shacks where they store their gear. I thought that a blue, weathered, ramshackled example was particularly interesting and based the above painting on it. I added the window box with flowers to provide contrast.
